How to create a watercolor butterfly with watercolor pencils and fineliner ink pens
In this tutorial, we'll create a vibrant butterfly using watercolor pencils and then outlining the butterfly with black fineliner ink pens. This approach of outlining watercolor with pen lets you create a soft color gradient from the watercolor, with a strong and vibrant feel from the framing effect of the black pen outline and accents.
There are many different options when it comes to watercolor - not just traditional paint and brush, but also watercolor brush pens and watercolor pencils. In this video, we use watercolor pencils as they allow more precision in applying the pigment. We then use a regular brush with water (no pigment) to spread and fade the water-soluble pigment from the colored pencils.
